We’ve been quiet for a few weeks as we’ve been meeting with the EWB Board of Directors and holding many follow-up conversations to discuss these issues.
.
The EWB Board says they are taking the issues we’ve raised very seriously, and have a Board meeting scheduled on April 29 and 30th to make decisions on how to proceed.
.
We have pushed the Board to make concrete decisions on the following:
-
Conducting an independent investigation/inquiry of systemic issues at the organization, with enough scope to address all issues raised- including, centrally, the issues of bullying, harassment, and discrimination at EWB. We have asked that they hire women with expertise in these areas to lead the inquiry.
-
Take immediate action to start a restorative process to repair harm caused to Chelsey and others.
-
Put in place measures to hold perpetrators and enablers accountable.
-
Lift the NDA imposed on Chelsey and any other NDAs used to silence survivors or cover up organizational misconduct.
-
Make a public statement of acknowledgement and apology.
-
Commit to transparency and timely communications going forward in regards to keeping chapter members, staff, fellows, alumni, funders, and supporters informed of the steps they have taken so far, and the ones they are taking going forward. Make all results of the independent inquiry available to members and the public.
.
We’ve taken a pause on our end until the close of the Board meeting on April 30th, as we await news on decisions and outcomes.
.
If you would like to do something to show your immediate support, you can send an email to EWB Board Chair, Cameron Charlebois, letting him know you believe the Board needs to take these issues very seriously (boardchair@ewb.ca).
